Enjoy some well-deserved time off without emptying your pockets by following these tips:
  1. Travel midweek and be flexible with dates and times: Flying is cheaper during the week. It’s worth it to be flexible and waiting for cheaper fares to save a few hundred dollars.
  2. Don’t check baggage: Few airlines allow you to check bags for free. You could save anywhere between $25-$50 when you pack light and take everything you need in your carry on. Make sure you leave room in your suitcase to bring back souvenirs or shipping them back home.
  3. Eat out less or not at all: When you’re on the road and don’t have a kitchen to cook in, dining out can get extremely expensive. Bring snacks with you on the plane. Lodge in a vacation home or hotel with a kitchen.  Take advantage of your hotel’s continental breakfast.  Check your smartphone’s app store for free apps that can point out where the discounted food places are.
  4. Take Public Transit: Car rentals can be expensive. See your destination as locals see it and take public transportation places.
  5. Ask a local where to go. You might find better sightseeing spots.
