eSmart’s Tax Refund Schedule

One of the main reasons many people file electronically is to get their refunds faster. Makes sense, doesn’t it? If you file your tax return electronically, it is usually processed in a day or two. If it is accepted and you are due a refund, the IRS will process your tax refund on a weekly schedule.

State refund schedules, however, are different for different States, but filing with your state electronically will still probably save you lots of time When you start to prepare your State tax return at eSmart Tax online, we’ll point you to links where you can find more specific information about your State.

I Want My Refund! How long does it take?

Generally, if a return is accepted by the IRS before Friday (by Thursday), the IRS will send refund by Direct Deposit on the Friday of the following week, or by paper check on the Friday two weeks later. For example, for tax returns received between 1/12/2007 (Friday) to 1/18/2007 (Thursday), a direct deposit will be made on 1/26/2007 and paper check will be mailed on 2/2/2007. The published refund schedule is a general guideline. The IRS does not guarantee a specific date a refund will be deposited or mailed. Taxpayers should wait 3 weeks from the time of return acceptance before checking the refund status. The following link provides more information on tax refunds.
