Many taxpayers who will be receiving a refund are anxious to receive it. With the introduction of e-file and supporting direct deposit for refunds, the IRS has cut the time from accepting your return to sending your refund has been cut substantially. In most cases, if you’ve elected to receive your refund through direct deposit, you can expect to receive your refund within 21 days from when your return was accepted by the IRS.

 

Here are our suggested steps to follow your refund from filing to receiving your refund:

Once you file your taxes with the program, you can track your tax return and whether it’s been accepted by the IRS through your account with eSmart Tax. Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, after 72 hours you can track your tax refund from processing to payment using the IRS’s free tool.

 

Refund Status From Your State

Like the IRS, most state Taxation offices or departments have a way to track your state tax return as well. You can find a link to your state’s taxation office in our Resource section, where you can find each state’s tool to track your tax refund if it’s offered.
