Whether you chose to e-file your return or you are using the Print and Mail option, eSmart Tax offers several convenient methods for paying your taxes to the IRS:

  • Pay your balance due with a credit or debit card. This option is provided by our partner Official Payments. A small convenience fee will apply.
  • Use the Direct Payment option to pay the balance due for your federal and certain state taxes directly from your bank account (checking or savings). There is no additional fee for this feature.
  • You can mail your payment to the IRS and state taxing authority. The filing instructions in your return will give you additional information.
  • By filing Form 9465 (an Installment Agreement Request), the IRS will allow you to set up payment arrangements. You can obtain Form 9465, with instructions, from the IRS online at: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f9465.pdf

If you are making a tax payment and you decide to mail a check, it is very important to enclose a check made payable to the "United States Treasury" with your payment voucher.
