Feeling the time crunch because your extended tax return is due at midnight tonight? October seems to have just snuck up on us all of sudden. To ease the tension, eSmart Tax is providing a few last minute tax tips for your sanity.

1. Scrutinize, scrutinize, scrutinize.

At this point, there’s no such thing as gracefully extending your time to file so you will want to inspect your entries carefully on your tax return. eSmart Tax’s helpful summaries help you break down each section carefully, but don’t just click “Next.” Review each entry carefully and make sure what you entered is correct. It may seem like you are committing a lot of time to your return up front, but it’s worth it to avoid the time deficit that comes when you have issues with the IRS.

Go through your tax return and double check everything—especially names, social security numbers, wages (and the decimal points and commas in them) reported from your W-2s and 1099s. Then, be sure to go over all of your potential tax deductions. Use eSmart Tax to check that you’ve claimed all of the deductions that you are eligible for and make sure you’ve entered the right numbers and figures.

2. Make A Date With E-file…Today

The post office is jammed every day---especially on October 15. Use e-file to send your return to the IRS and get quick status updates about your return.

3. Get Organized

Learn from the difficulties experienced last year and do a clean sweep of your office and filing cabinet to make sure you are ready for next year’s tax season. Just as fast as October came around, its cousin January is hanging out right around the corner!
